DRAW
You are to spend your 9 hours this week working on the following 3 projects:
PROJECT 1
Use this different online link to models and do a 30 minute set of gestures;
https://www.lovelifedrawing.com/
PROJECT 2
Conte work.
You have a choice this week. I have new conte images for you to copy OR you can work from life (a partner, a friend, a self portrait).
-Working from life, follow the class format of 20m of posing, 5 minute break, then back into the pose. I would suggest a 40 or 60 minute drawing. Do several!
-For the copy work remember you can do the whole drawing or a cropped view using the same tone paper and conte colors as the artist did.
A Students: use this image by James McNeil Whistler and this Seurat
B Students: Pick one black/white on gray from A and one multi color conte from C/D
C and D students: Use this image by Annibale Carracci and/or this Watteau
PROJECT 3
3 hours in your sketchbook
SUBMITTING WORK via EMAIL
Now take best photos you can (phone camera is fine) of
2 of your gesture drawings from the online models
2 copy works you produced in conte on toned paper
Email to: diane.olivier@mail.ccsf.edu Address heading with "Figure Drawing, your name), Conte/Gesture/Sketchbook part 2"

NEW WITHDRAW PROCEDURE
3/21 IMPORTANT re Dropping Classes and repeatability:
Students who opt to drop their classes can do so without getting a W on their transcript. We’re going to apply this to any student that dropped a class after the announcement of the suspension of face-to-face classes on March 9th.
Students can use the normal drop processes through myRAM (neƩ Web4) to take this option.
In addition to not appearing on transcripts, drops will not affect repeatability or count towards probation.
Students who drop classes will get any enrollment fees that they might have paid refunded. These refunds will be done automatically. We’re still getting clarity from the Feds about the impact on federal financial aid. Students that had gotten Free City grants will not have to repay any money they’d already gotten, but the drops may impact future payments.
Finally, the shift to online instruction will not impact the support for our veteran students.

NOTICE ABOUT WORKING AT HOME AND SUPPLIES
-Supplies
Fort Mason and all CCSF buildings are locked for who knows how long, I know it's inconvenient but you might want to order supplies online - Blick, Jerry's ArtaRama, probably Amazon, and what I think is the best, order from a local business like ARCH rather than the mega stores.
I'm assuming all most of you will really need is your paper as most of you don't leave supplies at FM. At minimum all you'll need some white paper (you can use a smaller size like 11x14" for home if it's easier). After doing the conte drawings you'll be able to choose any materials you'd like so if you don't have drawing supplies at home I would say get charcoals, erasers, graphite pencils and if you like ink add that in also. And hopefully you can find something to work as a drawing board.
-Easel
If you'd like (not necessary) you can purchase a table top easel for about $20 if you work on a smaller paper.
Other option is table in front of me with my supplies, me in a chair, push back the chair and lean board on table edge and your lap.
Or, board flat on table, you stand to draw.
I almost NEVER draw seated with paper flat on the table, it creates distortion problems.
- Working at Home:
To minimize your clean up employ your oldest sheet. Spread it under your work area, covering a good size area. Now set up. Most tables are easy to just wipe down but if you need to cover that also. When you're done you can wipe down the table, fold up the sheet and shake it outside. Working outdoors if possible is another solution.
-Timing
Why not consider working during regular class hours if you can so you feel some stability. Maybe you have FaceTime or What's App and you can buddy up with a friend or two to draw together.
I am in the process of learning Zoom hoping to be able to integrate it into the course. We'll see, more news on that later.
EMAIL AND QUESTIONS about the course
You can email me just remember i'm being flooded with emails from so many directions so be patient with my response time.

VIRUS UPDATE 3/10/20

| what I look like when I draw |
- As you know by now, I canceled class today because I am one of those people in the very high risk category and have made the difficult decision to stay secluded. Please practice high standard hygiene and self seclude if you are high risk or sick.
- You also may now realize you haven't changed your CCSF email to be forwarded to the account you most use. Here is the link to the directions again, do it now, I will be using this to communicate with you:
Need Help? CCSF HELP DESK
24 hours / 7 days/ 365 days
Phone: (415) 239-3711 Email: helpdesk@ccsf.edu
I will not be in on Thursday either, looking for a sub but no confirmation yet. Check back here, check your email.
- Then the college has announced a temporary suspension of face-to-face classes, meetings and events, effective Friday, March 13, 2020.
- Classes are scheduled to resume on Monday, March 30th, via modified and online learning formats. Classes will remain in these formats until the end of the semester and commencement on May 21, 2020; or until the current state of emergency is officially lifted by the Board of Trustees.
- At this time I do not know what this will look like, you need to check back with this site and check your email.
- Spring Break will be moved up from week of March 30th to week of March 23rd
- Mid term portfolios are suspended. I have to figure out how to work with this.
- Meanwhile, the 100 People in One Week challenge has begun, I'm doing it, why not give it a shot???
FIGURE PRACTICE
Practice what we’re doing with the figure in your sketchbook with people out in public. Here’s the blog of Liz Steel who started this challenge and it has her figure drawings up from the past 3 or 4 years:
And if you’d like to take up the challenge and do 100 figures for one week and you’d like to post them here’s the Facebook group:https://www.facebook.com/groups/OneWeek100People
See if you can find my postings of my first 45 people!!! Feel free to just browse there too as lots of people with way varying skills are posting!
